Toy Museum
The Antalya City Department of Culture and Social Affairs established the Toy Museum in September 2010 with the Department of Culture and Social Affairs of the Istanbul Toy Museum. The author of the Sunay Akın was also present as a consultant. The museum opened with a ceremony on 23 April 2011 in Antalya Kaleici. This museum is the third toy museum in Turkey after Istanbul and Izmir.
Suna & İnan Kıraç Kaleiçi Museum
The Koç University Suna & İnan Kıraç Kaleiçi Museum reflects the spirit of Turkish traditions and Turkish folk culture with its most colourful elements. It was opened to visitors on 18 May 1996 following the restoration of two buildings registered as cultural properties worthy of preservation in Kaleiçi of Old Antalya in 1993-1995 by Suna and İnan Kıraç. Its purpose was to document traditional Turkish popular cultural elements and pass them on to future generations. The Museum is situated in two buildings: a traditional Antalya house and Church of St George.
It is worth seeing
Kaleici Marina
In the marina you can dock 100 boats directly in front of the old town. The depth in the harbour is 6-7 metres. The part on the starboard side of the harbour entrance is flat and smaller boats are connected to each other there. The marina is operated by the city of Antalya.
In the marina the commercial boats with their countless entrances and exits generate intensive traffic. The ships do not anchor, but they are moored to the harbour wall. In the marina there is a petrol station and a sewage station.
Antalya Atatürk House Museum
In the first years of the Republic, the pavilion belonged to the governor’s office. During his visits to Antalya, the house was the home of Atatürk. In 1984, the house was assigned to the Ministry of Culture to build an Atatürk Museum and at the same time preserve his memory. In the course of a new land use plan the house was destroyed, but it was rebuilt by Kepez Elektrik company. The rectangular building with its two floors and brick walls was covered with bricks. Since 1986 it serves as a museum again.
Clock Tower
Clock towers were characteristic of the cities of the Ottoman Empire. In Antalya, one of these was “placed” on the substructure of a tower of the old city fortification. This clock was a gift from the German Emperor Wilhelm II. Today the tower is one of the distinctive landmarks of the city.
It is located on the edge of the old town. This lively square used to be the northern gate of the town. The tower to which the clock was attached was originally intended to protect the city gate and is one of the two former watchtowers, each built next to the city gate.
Mermerli Beach
Mermerli Beach is the only sandy beach at the foot of the high travertine cliffs that extend on both sides of the marina. It is located in a small bay south of the harbour. The beach is named after the Mermerli Köşk, which is located on the high rock terrace in the southeast of the marina. It is the only beach in Kaleiçi and also the first beach in Antalya to be used by the locals at a time when Antalya was not yet a world famous tourist attraction. Mermerli Beach is situated in a wonderful environment. Surrounded by the travertine rocks on both sides you have a magnificent view of the majestic Beydağları peaks rising from the sea on the opposite side of the Gulf of Antalya. Looking in the other side you can see the marina surrounded by the historical walls and towers. The same scenery is in front of you when you visit one of the restaurants lying in the green with their large terraces.
